Music that you enjoy listening to is one of the most effective therapies that offer instant relief from difficulties with walking. It offers an infusion of endorphins and – get this – dopamine which is why music as therapy for Parkinsons is so beneficial.

When listening to music you like, blood vessels expand by as much as 25%. They also shrink by as much when listening to music that is not pleasurable for a person to hear.

For example, if you love listening to country music – the magic of instant relief happens. If you dislike country music, the outcome will be the opposite of relief.

Better yet  – listening to music while exercising is the best medicine ever. Add the beat of a metronome to the music and you get an even bigger boast to dopamine. You get the most benefit when pushing yourself to exercise fast enough so that your heart pumps at 80 beats a minute or faster.

Gerdi offers the following experience with listening to music while exercising.

I have developed a very interesting way of being able to walk when I can not walk. it is listening with mp3 player to specially rhythmic music at 104 metronome beats per minute like the Radetzky march by Strauss.

I concentrate on the music and I start as if everything would be normal. Other people should try it. My experience of walking with marching music has been really incredible because there is no medicine that would make it possible for me to walk immediately during an off period.

Two natural therapies that offer instant relief from symptoms are music and exercise. Combine both and you get a welcome boost to dopamine and best of all quick, though temporary relief from walking difficulties.
